Pokemon were first shown to the world when Pokemon Red and Green came out for the Game Boy in Japan on February 27, 1996. The Pokemon craze began, and fans can still enjoy a huge number of video games, movies, TV shows, and other things related to the characters.
Since Pokemon’s 20th anniversary in 2016, February 27 has been known as Pokemon Day. This is when big news about the future of the brand is shared with the public. There are bigger and smaller Pokemon Day events every year, but for Pokemon fans, it’s always a fun time.
At the time of this writing, there were no plans for Pokemon Day 2024. The event will happen on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. As has been the case in recent years, Pokemon Day celebrations will probably happen at the same time as a Pokemon Presents stream. However, this has not been announced yet.
When is Pokemon Day 2024?
- Pokemon Day 2024 will take place on Tuesday, February 27
It needs to be said again that nothing official has been said about Pokemon Day 2024. But it’s possible that new Pokemon games will be announced at the event, and it’s also likely that games that are already out will get updates. One very real chance is that Pokemon Day 2024 will be used to show Pokemon fans a new Mythical Pokemon, as a reliable leaker has warned.
There have been rumors that Scarlet and Violet will get a new Mythical Pokemon and that this Mythical Pokemon will be in a new Pokemon anime movie. That makes sense, so it’s possible that the rumored Pokemon and the movie about it could be revealed on Pokemon Day. It’s possible that this kind of news would get Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans and Pokemon cartoon fans alike very excited. It could create a lot of buzz.
No one really knows what else will be shown on Pokemon Day 2024. There are past Pokemon Day events that Pokemon fans can look at to get an idea of what to expect from the possible show on February 27.

- Generation 1 Pokemon games released for 3DS Virtual Console (2016)
- Pokemon-Themed New Nintendo 3DS (2016)
- Pokemon Sun and Moon (2016)
- Pokemon Sword and Shield (2019)

The first official Pokemon Day event was in 2016, which marked the 20th anniversary of the series. There were many fun things to do on Pokemon Day 2016, but for many die-hard players, the most exciting things were the Virtual Console releases of Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow, as well as the announcement of Pokemon Sun and Moon, the first games in Generation 7.
On Pokemon Day 2016, a lot of things were done that the next two years just couldn’t live up to. In 2017 and 2018, The Pokemon Company still came up with clever ways to celebrate the Pokemon brand, but those Pokemon Day events didn’t have any big news for the franchise. But in 2019, things really got going when Pokemon Sword and Shield were shown off for the Nintendo Switch at a Nintendo Direct event. These were the first brand-new, mainline Pokemon games for Nintendo’s hybrid home system and handheld device.
In 2020, Pokemon Day parties were less flashy. Events took place in Pokemon GO, Pokemon Masters, and Pokemon Sword and Shield. Aside from the reveal of Mythical Pokemon Zarude for Pokemon Sword and Shield, the day didn’t have many big news stories. There are rumors that a new Mythical Pokemon might be coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This means that Pokemon Day 2024 might copy what happened in 2020.
Pikachu Fans Will Have To Simply Wait!
The Pokemon brand turned 25 years old in 2021, and that year also had one of the best Pokemon Days ever. On that day, Pokemon fans got news about new and old games, like New Pokemon Snap. They also learned about the remakes of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for Generation 4, and they were told about Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a big step forward for the series. It was one of the best-reviewed new Pokemon games in years, thanks in large part to its more open-ended gameplay.
On Pokemon Day 2022, Arceus released the Daybreak Update for Pokemon Legends. However, the main event of the day was the release of Generation 9 games Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, along with their starter Pokemon.
Last year’s Pokemon Day was not as thrilling as 2021 or 2022, but it did include the announcement of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. We’ll be interested to see if Pokemon Day 2024 is more like 2021 and 2022. Pikachu fans will have to wait until February 27 to find out.
